Condensation Damp.
Cause: Results from warm, moist air hitting cold surfaces like windows or walls, causing condensation. It's common in kitchens, bathrooms, and poorly ventilated rooms.
Signs: Water droplets on windows, black mould growth on walls or ceilings, and musty odors.
Solution: Improve ventilation (install fans or open windows), use dehumidifiers, and insulate surfaces to reduce temperature differences.
Each type of damp requires a different approach for treatment and prevention, making correct identification important for effective remediation.

2.
Penetrating Damp.
Cause: Caused by external water entering the home through walls, roofs, or windows. It’s often due to leaks, cracks, damaged roofs, or blocked gutters.
Signs: Localised damp patches on walls, especially after heavy rain, water stains, and moss or mold growth.
Solution: Fix external leaks, seal cracks, repair roofs, and ensure proper guttering. Improving external waterproofing can prevent water from entering.

3.
Rising Damp.
Cause: Occurs when ground moisture rises up through the walls or floors due to capillary action. It typically affects the lower parts of walls.
Signs: Tide marks on walls, peeling paint or wallpaper, and salty residue. It can damage plaster and flooring.
Solution: Installing or repairing a damp-proof course (DPC), which is a waterproof barrier in the wall or floor, can stop moisture from rising.
